Its almost Carnaval (Mardi Grass) and so it seemd nice to make a lamp of the logo of our carnaval club. This is how i did it ans how you can make your own. I used a design from Thingiverse to use its supersimple click together system that works great. The design is found here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3373014 Then i loaded it in Tinkercad and stripped it from its top layer so that i had a smooth surface to work on and on the bottom still this nice click system. I as well changed the bottom side of the tiles, in here were side markers to show which part goes where. For my design this was unimportant so i made the botom smooth. Then i dowloaded the logo of our caranaval club (mardi grass) and removed all the colors in paint so that only the logo in black was all that remained. This can be a struggle it took me on this logo more than two hours to do so. I then saved it to a png file, a jpg would have been ok too. This file i converted to an svg file using the following website: https://image.online-convert.com/convert-to-svg I did not change any setting by the way. Then i loaded the svg in Tinkercad and added text around the logo, in this case the clubs name and our hometown. I scaled it to the right size and pulled it up to its own height of 1 mm and up to 5 mm so it would be the new toplayer of the cube tiles. I reckoned we needed a little bit more and thats why i added on each side two stars. Reason was i wanted light in the box and to give it a little more light outcome i added the stars. Brings me to the real changes to the design. They are more or less invisible. I made a post of 60 mm high and a diameter of 25 mm. Around this post i glue a 50 cm flexible LED strip. The ones i use allready have a sticky backside as a sticker has so just wrapping it around nicely will do. The LED strips were ordered here: https://nl.aliexpress.com/item/USB-Powered-DC-5V-LED-Strip-light-2835-RGB-White-Warm-White-Waterproof-Tape-LED-Lamp/32820847212.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.27424c4dPa6DhO They do come with a remote control and cost virtually nothing and are full color. On one of the tiles, thats why there are two them i made a small hole on the right hand corner to guide the cable of the LED light through. When all is printed i take one tile, not the one with the hole, and glue the 60 mm post in the middle of the tile on the inside. I used PVC glue for that. After that i carefully push the sides together and voila the cube with lights and clublogo is ready. Not all the way because now its sitting on one side on the table thats not what we want, so i designed a small cube holder as well where it fits in nicely. I agree it is not a masterpiece but it will do for what i wanted. Feel free to strip the logo from the side of the cube tiles, in fact i will post as well the stripped tiles, and add you own design to the sides so your own cube light. Everything is printed without supports, rafts or brims and in a resolution of 0.2 mm. I used white PLA as basecolor, which is best because of letting the light through. Top i used simple black PLA, however some more fancy color is nice as well. I made the original cube with Extrafill Galaxy Vertigo and it came out nice too. You will need 5 Cubetiles without hole and all other files you need 1. Total printing time on a 100% speed will be appr. 16 hours. The picture of the cube i do not like at all it doesn't look too smooth and this is indeed the case but when looking with lights on its very very nice and thats what its for. Have fun printing your own cube.
