Hello, I would like to present you my entry for the #pimpmyprusa design challenge. The MK3 Double Spoolholder is very sturdy and stable. Wide spools like the Prusa PLA and Prusament ones fit on it greatly and unroll evenly and nicely. However thinner spools from other manufacturers like Filamentum for example, tend to rattle and slide from one side to the other following the extruder movement. This extension was designed to stabilise them and allow them to unroll evenly without unnecessary shaking. The spool's entire weight still rests on the Spoolholder what makes this entire contraption very reliable. Since both of the panels are movable it allows the spool to be placed anywhere on the arm of the spool holder. To exchange the spool for a different one you only need to remove one of the panels. I decided to design more version of the panels, a basic pattern, one with a Prusa pattern, and one with a floral pattern. That way this extension might be both useful and makes the printer more beautiful. All the parts print without supports, at 0.2 mm layer height. No post processing is needed for the printed parts, and no changes are needed to be made to the Spoolholder. Printing pointers: - print one Spool Attachment, Key and Pin; and two Panels, either the same or different - if you want the spool to be mounted on the other arm of the Spoolholder, you need to mirror the Spool Attachment in the slicing software - no supports needed for any of the parts - 0.2 layer height, infill percentage 15-20% - 3 perimeters for the Spool Attachment, 2 for the other parts - the pin should be printed vertically - the layer lines stabilise the panels After printing push the unchamfered end of the pin into the slot on the Spool Attachment. Next mount it on the Spoolholder and secure it with the Key. After that mount the first panel, then the thin spool and the second panel. Ensure the spool is able to unroll freely and you're good to go. Tolerances on the printed parts are tight, if it's necessary you can scale the pin uniformly in the x/y dimensions by a small bit. The panels should be movable by hand, but with a certain ressistance, so that the spool won't move them. After the panels are removed you can mount a wider spool without disassembling the rest of the parts, they will not impede the spools movement.
