With metal roofing, snow stops are used in order to keep large amounts of snow from sliding off of the roof at one time. These snow stops are usually made from sheet metal or injection molded plastics and cost from $2 to $5 a piece. With the need to use many of these on a single roof, a lot of money can be saved by 3D printing them. This snow stop was designed in OpenSCAD. It was designed with grooves in the bottom to better adhere to the roof when using silicone. The part is meant to be screwed onto the roof using the two holes in the part. The total cost of 3D printing the part was $1.20, which over a scale of the 100 pieces that you need for an average house and a garage would save from $80 to $380 per job.
