This relief belongs to Selinunte's early monumental architecture. The series of "little motopes" belonged to the so-called temple Y, whose sculptural and architectural features were re-used to build the Hellenistic fortifications. Although the exact location of the lemme remains unknown, it is possible to make a general reconstruction of it from its platform (stylobate) to its comice. As one can infer from the stout proportions of its colonnade, this tempie or-dates temple c in the evolution of the Siceliot Doric architecture. This primitive sacred architecture. characterised by Doric colonnades and entablature. It is based on the model of the temples built in the cities (poleis) of eastern Sicily, such as Siracusa and Megara Hyblaea. Nonetheless, it represents a significant step forward in the evolution of architecture, especially when compared to the early phase of monumental architecture in Selinunte, which was characterised simply by the development of the cornice.
