This is a heavily copied bust of the Greek philosopher Socrates (469-399 BC), housed in The Villa Albani. The characteristic features of the philosopher are apparent in this depiction, with a furrowed brow, turned up nose and full beard. The bust is that of a cropped herm with a square base.
