Pentadodakagon Puzzle with calculator  This is my contribution to the Make anything design challenge   The idea:This puzzle is based on the well known pentomino puzzle - transported to the 3rd dimension. It's modular - you can start by printing a few parts (without support) to get a solvable puzzle.Whenever you- need to test new filament,- have to deplete the rest from a spool,- spent a rainy day inside,- want to drive a friend crazy, you can print additional parts to make the puzzle more complex -or- easier to solve.Check out the calculator, just click the "run" button to find solutions.    Getting started:To get a simple puzzle with a height of two rings you need only 6 parts. 4 'pentos' and 2 'rings'.E.g. print pentos: I, L, U, Y, rings: 1, 3, (and optional: base, pin2).While trying to solve this puzzle, you can print the base plate (base) and the center pin for 2 rings (pin2)   Printing:- 'pentos' and 'rings' : 2 outlines, 3 bottom/top layers, 20% infill- 'base' and 'pins' : 3 outlines, 4 bottom/top layers, 33% infill- chamfers are designed for 0.2 layer height(Hint: if the pin is to loose or does not fit in the base just scale up/down X and Y of the pin)   Add complexity to your puzzle:Just print a new center pin, two additional pentos and another ring.(Hint: To make sure the puzzle is solvable with the new parts use the calculator)   Reduce complexity from you puzzle:Just print other 'pentos' or 'rings'.(Hint: use the calculator to make sure that the number of solutions increase)   The calculator:I wrote a calculator to solve a puzzle with given parts or generate a solvable puzzle within given parameters. You can also use it as a tool to check the complexity of your puzzle - just take a look on the amount of all found solutions Its written in plain JavaScript in a single html file. You can use the calculator online or download it to use it local.(Hint: The code is far from perfect.)   Design:I designed all parts in Fusion360, learned a lot!
