I was reading the July August 2020 issue of Cooks Illustrated and found a "what is this" article for a unique, cute egg slicer. Turns out it is a Bulgarian antique kitchen gadget. I decided to implement this nifty kitchen tool. I fired up my trusty FreeCAD and went about designing my own variation. In the process I learned much more of FreeCAD, creating meshes, and wrapping springs. Besides the printed parts you will need 40 cm of 316L stainless steel wire for the slicing and .014 (.356mm) of spring tempered music wire for the compression springs. To create the springs place the mandrel in a hand drill, thread the music wire through the hole, and use the spring tool to wrap the spring at a slow drill speed. Be sure to wear eye protection and a thick work glove; once the spring is wrapped it will unwind enthusiastically upon removal of the tool from the mandrel.
