Cassiano Collection explores the value of the copy and how it can enhance experience through the idea of an edited artefact/collection. The bust in question is Monsignor Carlo Antonio dal Pozzo located at the Scottish National Gallery. I have edited the scan to include three public domain images sourced from The Metropolitan Museum of Art. After undergoing research of the life of Monsignor Carlo Antonio dal Pozzo (1547-1607) I decided to create a family narrative. Dal Pozzo was the uncle of Cassiano dal Pozzo, who commissioned the Italian sculptor Gian Lorenzo Bernini to carve the bust. Cassiano dal Pozzo was an important patron of the arts and was Nicolas Poussin’s major patron. He also created Paper Museum which was a collection of over seven thousand drawings and prints, along with his brother Carlo Antonio dal Pozzo. It was the first significant attempt to visualise knowledge before the invention of photography. This information is reflected in the visual images I have selected. The front two images are prints from Paper Museum with an image of one of Poussin’s paintings on the back of the bust. Therefore, the edited scan conveys certain histories and stories, adding context that might not have been communicated in the same way by viewing the original. It allows the viewer to create their own interpretations of the work. In a sense, the model is a snippet of Cassiano dal Pozzo’s collecting tastes with the bust of Monsignor Carlo Antonio dal Pozzo being one of them.   Sources Scan the World: Monsignor Carlo Antonio dal Pozzo Etruscan Candelabrum Finial (from Cassiano dal Pozzo's 'Paper Museum') via The Metropolitan Museum of Art is licensed under CC0 1.0 Copy after a Sculpture of the Sleeping Eros Based on an Antique Model (from Cassiano dal Pozzo's 'Paper Museum') by Giovanni Angelo Canini (Italian, Rome 1615–1666 Rome) via The Metropolitan Museum of Art is licensed under CC0 1.0 The Companions of Rinaldo by Nicolas Poussin via The Metropolitan Museum of Art is licensed under CC0 1.0
