Hi ikea i saw your demographic challenge and i saw the words "We want to explore hands-on everyday off-grid solutions for the basic things to cope with everyday life: energy, water, and communication" When i saw those words i instantly thought sending letters to people.I have been hearing that education in africa is very difficult as basic tools such as a pencil are very expensive in the poor regions. So i knew that a good education lets you comunicate better with others (this theory mainly applies with english). I also considered the fact that maths is important in life. So i built a very cheap pencil case that can open and close which includes a ruler(which is also a compass). Also the photos provided are the prototype of the compass ruler. Another idea i thought was to ue as less plasic for the print so the cost to make it would be cheaper. So in places where i could remove some plastic i removed it. The ruler/compass can be used by using it as a normal ruler or to usse the compass by putting the pole included in the extrahole and puting the pencil in where ever in the ten centimeter range you want. So there are ten holes in each centimeter. Therefore you can make circles up to 20cm in diameter. The student can buy more pencils and put it in the extra pencil holders. The people can get this in a small pack.  Items in pack: pencil case protractor ruler/compass 2 pencils 1 pen Therefore i have proven to you how this item ticks all the 5 boxes to consider and overall it is cheap to manufacture. So i hope you apreciate my project that may help thousands of poor people in africa and maybe worldwide. Goodluck to all the other contestants.
