Stereo photographyA simple way to make low cost stereo picture pairs is combining two digital compact cameras with a distance between the lenses of about 6,5 cm, which is the average distance between human eyes. When using two compact cameras, the distance between the lenses is mostly over 6,5 cm. However, a larger distance enhances the three dimensional effect. So we can live with it. The two shutters are activated simultaneously, synchronized by adjustable M3 screws. To be able to use a tripod, a nut with camera thread is added. You can get one at the photo shop around the corner. The viewing angle of the cameras cannot be adjusted to obtain a stable unit and improve shutter synchronization. In close up, the effective photo size gets smaller. The shutter release strips are connected. An opening in the strips allows switching on/off without taking the cameras out of the holder. After removing the spacer, the cameras can be taken out easily to set menu and mode. Slip them back into their housings and you are ready to go.Watching stereo pictures: Use an iPhone in combination with VR-glasses.Print them with the left picture at the left and the right picture at the right and look at them with a stereo viewer.Print them with the left picture at the right and the right picture at the left, cross your eyes and look at the middle picture (see attached rabbit 3D-photograph). If you don't see the 3D picture, slowly move one ear to the shoulder.This thing is designed for two really cheap and not so good digital cameras (crossed eyes pond picture). However, even when the quality is very poor, an interesting 3D effect is present (printed animals).Since the OpenSCAD design files are included, this Thing can be adapted to different compact camera models.
