At long last! The Super Transporter - "Beluga" for the distinctive shape - is completely modeled. This particular aircraft was conceived by Airbus in response to growing demand for aircraft combined with the difficulty in delivering completed parts to factories for final assembly. The idea behind this metal bird was to put more positive control of logistics back into the hands of Airbus. This model has been some time in the making. Not exactly eight months of non-stop effort, but eight months of an hour or so mixed in with weeks of flight school and computer issues. The model is not split into components...yet. I am still learning the nuances of Blender in creating print-worthy models. The capability of Blender is immense, as is the learning curve. I am probably going to return to Sketchup until I spend more time working in Blender altogether. For now, enjoy!

About the author:
Navy876
I am a commercial pilot, and Purdue University graduate training for Naval Aviation in Pensacola, FL. I fell in love with 3D printing my junior year of college and have been exploring the limits of the technology as part of my research at school. While that has come to a conclusion, the hobby of making model airplanes for my office continues to grow. I take requests, but my obligations to the Navy limit my focus to keeping this a hobby. However, I was recently contacted by Microsoft who looked to gain some insight into why I make these models, where I upload them and for what reasons do I upload them. This made me consider expanding outside Thingiverse, where I first uploaded my aircraft. Enlarging my audience will enable me a faster turnaround from uploading to feedback and criticism from the community. I also hope that this will enable me to generate some sort of revenue in the form of tips or compensated publicity, which I can then use to purchase my own designs since I do not have access to a printer of my own. I try to produce an aircraft every two weeks or so. I build any model aircraft I can get dimensions and blueprints on. Have an aircraft you've seen and would like for yourself? Have advice or a need for advice on modeling a plane for yourself? Send me a message and I'll be happy to work with you when I have the time available. Cheers!
