Kokeshi dolls (こけし人形) were originally created in the Tohoku (東北) region of Northern Japan. They were turned in wood of dark cherry. After the second world war, artists reuse this ancestral techniques to create original Kokeshi Dolls, with new shapes and design. The original signification of kokeshi dolls was centred around children, some people believing that kokeshi represent the wish for a healthy child, and others that they bring children closer to the mountain spirits. Today I propose you a creative version of Kokeshi Dolls, it’s wood toys for 3D printing (3D印刷用木製玩具). Here you can find objects of 3D printable Kokeshi Family (in .Stl file). I have printed them in white to allow people to paint or to draw on them (tatoos artist welcome), the way you want. As we can see in the picture, the original Kokeshi were painted with flower and linear patterns.
