I did this for the rep your department contest. I went to Colorado State a long time ago as a civil engineering student & still do civil engineering. This is a cross section of a typical road with the buried utilities. The design is to a 1"=50' scale for horizontal distances & 1"=5' for the vertical distances. This is a standard practice in civil engineering, it distorts things, but it also allows differences to be better seen. This makes round pipes look like an oval. Starting from the bottom, see the sanitary sewer & services, manholes extend up, then the storm sewer (the largest structure) along w/ manholes up, then water main, water services, water meter pits and a fire hydrant, last is the ground surface, including the street with a crown and curb & gutter (standard slope of 4" up, 7" back) My printer isn't big enough to print it full scale, so I printed a 40% size & the structures are mostly too fine to see/print. So I printed a cross section laid on end. that worked better, but my printer's support structures are still a little robust. I hope that everyone likes it.
