This turntable is designed as a desktop gadget to animate the optical illusions by Kokichi Sugihara.Push the button until you hear the microswitch release and the platform will rotate 180 degrees. The base houses a low RPM geared DC motor, a micro switch, a push button and a 9 volt battery. Solder the wires as close as possible to the body of the microswitch and cut off the remaining part of the contacts. In this way the microswitch will be flush with the base. The switch lever can be bend upwards to ensure proper functioning. During installation, the switch has to be pressed down by a piece of carton or tape to prevent the motor from running. Solder all the wires before placing the components and make sure the wires run properly through the channels. The motor opening has to be brought to size by hand with a 12mm drill. Don’t be afraid to apply force when pushing the motor into the opening until it is flush with te base. The platform is attached to the motor shaft with two M3 bolts that also function as switch activator. Any mirror with the right size can be placed in the slot. Fix it with some foam at the backside. In case minor changes have to be made, the SCAD files are attached as well. If the motor does not stop at 180 degrees, the RPM is too high. In that case, you could make the switch activators wider by bonding a strip along the bolts to keep the switch open during a longer time and/or replace the 9 volt battery by two or three AAA batteries. If the turntable gets a fixed place, it is a good idea to fix it with double sided adhesive foam tape.
