On permanent display at the British Museum this sculpture is a roman marble reworking of an original bronze piece, otherwise known as 'Fedele' or 'Spinario'. The original sculpture, built in the 1st Century AD, is celebrated at the Museo del Palazzo dei Conservatori in Rome, and this version is probably the best surviving copy to its original. With small holes at the base of the sculpture it suggests that it was used as a figure in a fountain.   Constructed under the Hellenistic style the attention to detail of the details, namely the thorn and rock in which he sits are immaculately detailed and serve as an homage to rustic countryside.   This object is part of "Scan The World". Scan the World is a non-profit initiative introduced by MyMiniFactory, through which we are creating a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks and landmarks from across the globe for the public to access for free. Scan the World is an open source, community effort, if you have interesting items around you and would like to contribute, email [email protected] to find out how you can help.
