Athens or Attica (Greece), acquired in 1841Marble, 410-400 BC This banquet scene is not a realistic depiction of te everyday banquets, for the presence of wives at the men's symposium was inconceivable. Rather, this is a sacral picture type created for the portrayal of venerated deceased family members. This is further illustrated by the family group adoring the hero. This object is part of "Scan The World".
