Island of Naxos (Greece), acquired in 1903Marble from Naxos, 550 - 540 BC Due to the local high-quality marble, the Naxians were decisively involved in the development of the kouros type. This prototype of the archaic image of men was created under Egyptian influence. Nude bodies are usually depicted frontally. As tomb statues, they personify the aristocratic ideal of athletic and intellectual perfection.  This object is part of "Scan The World". Scan the World is a non-profit initiative introduced by MyMiniFactory, through which we are creating a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks and landmarks from across the globe for the public to access for free.
