Unknown provenance. Roman copy of the statue of Apollon Sauroktonos ('Lizard-slayer') carved by Praxiteles about 350 BC. The God will have been depicted leaning against a tree, up which a lizard was slithering and holding an arrow in his right hand, ready o strike the reptile.
