This Roman copy goes back to the Greek bronze statue of a girl dressed in a knee-length, thin garment (chiton). The dancer stood on the tip of her toes, as is indicated by the tensed-up muscules of the upper thighs and by her back. The right arm is extended for for better balance, similar to dancing hererae at the symposium.
