Jan Antoine van der Ven (Den Bosh 1799-1866) was a sculptor, draftsman and director of academy. The subjects represented in his pieces were portraits, figure ans mythology.  His period of activity was between 1814-1866. He attended the Royal School of Visual Arts in Den Bosh, Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Academie des Beaux-Arts in Brusselsd and the Ecole des Beaux- Arts in Paris.He was pupil of Jan Frans van Yellow. In 1858 became director of the Royal School of Visual Arts in Den Bosch.  He was teacher of Charles-Henry Geerts, Lambert Hazemans, Piet Butcher and Edouard Francois Marchant. He won a competition in Rome for sculpture at the Antwerp Academy in 1981.(Credit; Rkd)This object is part of "Scan The World".
