Extensive dadoes made from carved stucco covered the lower portions of walls in both the palaces and private houses in Samarra. Only fragmented panels from the excavations were sent to Berlin. In order to give visitors an idea of the original interior features, part of a wall with original fragments was reconstructed as early as 1922. This wall, complete with the niches carved above the dado, originated from a private house. The dado and right niche are original, the rest is reconstructed.
