In Athens, throughout the 5th century B.C., it was quite common to represent standing male figures in heroic nudity, with a spear resting on the shoulder, a bearded face, long hair and a Corinthian helmet. This figure could therefore represent an Athenian general (strategos) who distinguised himself during the Peloponnesian War (431-404 B.C.). Roman 2nd Century A.D. copy of a bronze original of the 4th century B.C.
