In Roman times, portraits were a continued popularity from their Greek predecessors. Honoured portraits were thus erected for deserved personalities, inscriptions handed down their benefits, serving as celebrities to the community. This statue of an unknown woman can be identified as someone of a similar nobility to Livia (wife of Augustus) by her toga and style. For a comparison see the Staute of Livia (GL 367) at the Antike am Konigsplatz, Munich.
