The myrtle crown and torch indicate that the boy was assigned to the Eleusinian cult; his functionn was to carry the offerings to the sunctuary. The statue is a copy after a Peloponnesian original of the fifth century BC. It was made in the second century AD. Uncovered during the excavation for the Quirinal tunnel, Domus of Fulvius Plautianus.
