The spiral column is shaped as a vine-trunk, with ivy-shoots and vine - leaves with tendrisl twisted around. The little head of a silenus is visible in the upper part of the trunk. The Dionysiac typology of the work suggests that it originally belonged to a sculptural group with Dionysus or had a decorative function, perhaps as a support for a little sculpture or a candelabra. The column may be dated to the Flavian age.
