This marble sculpture was sculpted by Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux (born in Balenciennes 1827, died in Coubevoie 1875). In Naples, Carpeaux was in residency at the academy of France in Rome; he wrote about his sculpture "It's a young fisherman of 11 years listening to the echo through a shell and laughing", the piece, welcomed by the Academy of Fine Arts, became a large public success. The Atelier Carpeaux has since seen many reproductions and variants of the sculpture.   This object is part of "Scan The World". Scan the World is a non-profit initiative introduced by MyMiniFactory, through which we are creating a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks and landmarks from across the globe for the public to access for free. Scan the World is an open source, community effort, if you have interesting items around you and would like to contribute, email [email protected] to find out how you can help.
