This is Saint Andrew, one of the apostles sculptures, which were attributed to one of the major artists of Romanesque art, using inscriptions identified by Alexandre Dumège, which have since disappeared. This sculptor, the famous Gilabertus is also assumed to have carved the magnificent capital representing The Death of Saint John the Baptist. Whatever his name may be, this artist is one of the most inspired sculptors of his time. The elegance of the elongated silhouette, the fluidity of the drapery, the diversity in the systems of folds applied to each part of the body, the luxurious orphreys of this apostle, carved in high relief from the angle of a block of limestone from which he appears to be walking quietly away...everything concurs to create an exceptional, deeply spiritual figure.
