Rose Beuret was Rodin’s life partner. They got married in 1917 after fifty-seven years of their relationship, she died just a few weeks after their marriage. Rose was a countryside girl, daughter of a provincial family that owned a vineyard.  They first met when the sculptor was eighteen and stayed together in an on and off relationship for over fifty years. The relationship began as a model and sculptor one and then continued through the years as a tumultuous one. Rose was always faithful and loyal to the artist who called her Mignon in an affectionate way. She soon became pregnant with their son Auguste, named after his father, who was deeply devoted to his father even though he was never fully raised by him. The woman expressed a form of jealousy towards Camille Claudel, Rodin’s muse and model who worked with him for years. The two women, almost never in contact, played an essential role in Rodin’s life and creativity as his muses.
