This right humerus from a fox was scanned in the Virtual Curation Laboratory using a NextEngine Desktop 3D scanner. This bone was on loan from the Fort Lee Regional Archaeological Curation Facility (RACF) to aid in the development of a digital zooarchaeological type collection, and for replication to be used in research, outreach, and teaching. Note that the scanning software closed the vertebral foramen and it will need to be opened through digital editing. Courtesy of Fort Lee RACF.

About the author:
VCL
The Virtual Curation Laboratory at VCU formed through a project with the U.S. Department of Defense’s Legacy Program to develop a digital data project that incorporates the use of a three-dimensional object scanner in recording American Indian and historic artifacts for analysis and conservation. The Virtual Curation Laboratory now partners with institutions across the planet to 3D scan paleontological, archaeological, and historically significant items with the goal of sharing them freely with the world.
