This mammoth tusk is currently part of the Ice Ages (http://www.nysm.nysed.gov/exhibitions/ongoing/ice-ages) exhibit at the New York State Museum. Because of this, the tusk could only be 3D scanned with a Go! Scan 50 from the top and sides. However, the bottom part of the tusk on display simply amounts to hold up the top half, as the bottom half of the tusk is not on display. Museum specimen number VP95. Courtesy of the New York State Museum. ________ This object is scanned by Virtual Curation Lab

About the author:
VCL
The Virtual Curation Laboratory at VCU formed through a project with the U.S. Department of Defense’s Legacy Program to develop a digital data project that incorporates the use of a three-dimensional object scanner in recording American Indian and historic artifacts for analysis and conservation. The Virtual Curation Laboratory now partners with institutions across the planet to 3D scan paleontological, archaeological, and historically significant items with the goal of sharing them freely with the world.
