Depictions of queens were most often of the Queen of Sheba, usually accompanied by King Solomon. Shown together, they may be interpretes as a precursor of Christ and his bethrothed bride, the Church. However, as the Queen of Sheba has bestowed gifts on Solomon, the couple may also refer to the Adoration of the Magi. Their association also sometims conveys the idea of testing the faith of believers, as the Queen of Sheba test Solomon's wisdom with a series of riddles.
