The god Pan is depicted here while teached the shepherd Daphnis to play the syring (panpipes), the typical pastoral musical instrument. It's a Roman copy of an original sculpture from Rhodes from around 100 BC. It can be considered as an example of the Hellenistic production characterised by sculptures with pastoral and erotic subjects, used as garden decorations.
