Nerva (30–98) was Roman emperor from 96 to 98. Nerva became emperor at the age of 65, after a lifetime of imperial service under Nero and the rulers of the Flavian dynasty. In this sculpture, he is portrayed as Jupiter, who is the god of the sky and thunder and king of the gods in Ancient Roman religion and mythology (equivalent to Greek Zeus). The god is often portrayed enthroned and draped, often holding his symbols - eagle and thunderbolt.
