Nadia Elena Comăneci (November 12, 1961) is a former Romanian gymnast, winner of three gold medals at the 1976 Summer Olympicsin Montreal and the first gymnast to be awarded a perfect score of 10 in an Olympic gymnastics event. She also won two gold medals at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. She is one of the best-known gymnasts in the world. In 2000, Comăneci was named as one of the Athletes of the Century by the Laureus World Sports Academy.   This sculpture is one of an ever-growing series of bronze busts located outside The School of Gymnastics in Deva, Romania. Each bust depicts a female athlete who represented Romania since the 1978 Olympic Games in Montreal. The series serves as an homage to the strength and success of female artistic gymnasts and athletes around the world. The School of Gymnasts was picked up by the legendary gymnast Nadia Comaneci and is coached by Marta and Bela Karoly. Since 2003 the school was renamed as The Cetate Deva National Sports college and focuses on female athletics.   This object is part of "Scan The World".
