This is a fragment an overall full representation of a buddha, only the head remains. It originates from Cambodia but its exact provenance is not known. It was created in the style 'Pre Rup' in the third quarter of the Xth Century, made out of sandstone. The Pre Rup style is familiar with Cambodia as it shares the name with one of the most popular ancient temples in the country.  The temple’s name is a comparatively modern one meaning "turn the body". This reflects the common belief among Cambodians that funerals were conducted at the temple, with the ashes of the body being ritually rotated in different directions as the service progressed.   This object is part of "Scan The World". Scan the World is a non-profit initiative introduced by MyMiniFactory, through which we are creating a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks and landmarks from across the globe for the public to access for free. Scan the World is an open source, community effort, if you have interesting items around you and would like to contribute, email stw@myminifactory.com to find out how you can help.
