This is a Cypro-Classical anthropomorphic sarcophagus with a body relief on the lid.  The sarcophagus is one the eleven anthropomorphic sarcophagi found to date in Cyprus. It is comprised of the two monolithic parts, the coffin and its lid, on which a female face with a severe expression is carved in high relief. The body is implied by the downward tapering lid that ends in a vertical plinth suggesting the feet. The sarcophagus is carved in coarse-grained white Cycladic marble and it is estimated that it was the work of a local artisan who followed the artistic tradition of the sarcophagi of Sidon and Damascus. Within the sarcophagus, the remains of a number of individuals were found commingled, the latest attributed to the Roman period.
