Henri Alfred Marie Jacquemart, better known by his chosen name Alfred Jacquemart (as he signed his works), was a French Sculptor and animalier (an artist specialized in the realistic portrayal of animals). He created many large-scale pieces on public display, such as Rhinoceros and large bronze lions in Paris, Huntsman and dogs in Sydney. This is a high quality and rare 19th C. cast tiger from a “Lion and Tiger” pairing, cast in 1866 at the Barbezat Foundry of Val d’Osne, near Dijon, where most of his pieces were cast by the silversmith Christofle.
