Commissioned in 1696 for the park of Versailles to make correspondance with The Annibal of Slodtz. Paid in 1713. Transferred to the room of anitquities of The Louvre to the Jardin des Tuileries in 1722, the date which is marked on the base of the statue. The maquette for the sculpture in terracotta is exhibited in Girardon's crypt.
