The statue sits in marble, represents the greatest historian of the Middle Ages: Jehan Froissart. This is surrounded by a semicircle on which are located medallions also carved by Lemaire, representing Valenciennes celebrities: Claudin the Jeune, Henri d'Outreman, Isabelle de Hainaut, Jacques de Lalaing, Baudouin 1er, Henri VII, Philippa de Hainaut, Charles de Lannoy, Simon Le Boucq and Jehan de Cartigny. This monument has been located since 1856 in the street that bears his name. But today a copy of the statue of Froissart replaced the original degraded which was restored by Robert Brageu in 1995.
