This statue commissioned in 1781, shows Moliere writing. The Word Tartuffe is visible on one of the pages under his right hand. Caffieri's inspiration for the face came from a portrait painted by Pierre Mignard. The criticism of the sculptor's work was also a tribute to his skill, his chiselling being described as "tender rather than proud, soft rather than vigorous".
