This marble sculpture of the Roman soldier Horatius Cocles dates from 507 BC It was offered to the city of Biarritz by the Porto Riche family, former owners of the Grand Hotel. The size of the statue, base included is about 3 meters. Horatius Cocles is known to have contained the army of the Etruscan king Porsenna, while behind him, the Romans cut the Sublicius Bridge
