The Roman head probably belongs to a so-called Triptolemus, who was a mythical Greek hero, as the sculpture's long hair rules out an interpretation as an athlete. The Roman remodelling is primarily visible in the classic sentimental line of the head; this is the only copy of the piece. It was allefedly found near Herculaneum, Italy, in 1750.
