Color:

Athens or Aegina (Greece), acquired in 1884 from the Sabouroff Collection; marble, 550 - 540 BC The well-groomed beard of an older man distinguises the high-quality, famous "Sabouroff head" from the faces of the archaic statues of youths (kouroi). The rough chipping of the hair and beard served as the surface for additions in plaster, but it does not allow the precise function of the statue to be determined. This object is part of "Scan The World".
