This magnificent sculpture stands outside the entrance to the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. I tried to get good photos of it because I was absolutely fascinated and held by the very dynamics of this horse sculpure: just the enormity of it all; the overall physicality and presence, the dynamics of the pose, and the absolute attention to sculptural detail (the wrinkles in his neck and muzzle, the slight feathering at the fetlocks, the nails in the hoof wall, and horseshoes, etc); even tiny individually sculpted hair detail to match the direction of hair flow. It was sculpted by Pierre-Louis Rouillard (1820-1881) for the Universal Exhibition (World's Fair) in 1878 and was originally located in front of the Palace Trocadero. It was moved to it's present location (near the entrance to the Musée d'Orsay) in 1986.
