Sculpture (hampatong), Dayak people, Kalimantan, Indonesia, Iron, wood, Don Emile Dezeraue in 1977. Musée d’Art et d’Histoire (Musée du Cinquantenaire, Brussels, Belgium). Made with CapturingReality. A hampatong represents an ancestor. These large protective sculptures repel evil spirits. They are erected near the entrance of the house, at the beginning of the access road at the ends of a village or on the banks of a river. Small in size, they become an amulet.
