This sculpture depicts a boy who plays with a goose, pressing it strongly against himself as to strangle it. It is a Roman copy of a bronze original created around 180 B.C. by the sculptor Boethos. This subject was very popular, as testified by the numerous copies that have been identified. In the Cesi and Boncompagni Ludovisi Collections, this sculpture restored in its upper part, was placed next to the statue of Aphrodite on a single base.
