The epitaph states: "Promathion's son, Matrikon, lived 54 years in a flawless manner".  In ancient Greece, the symposium was a part of a banquet that took place after the meal, when drinking for pleasure was accompanied by music, dancing, recitals, or conversation. It was common in Greek funeral art to represent a part of the deceased's life on his gravestone, and therefore represent him living for eternity.
