This relief was found in Piraeus. The mature woman wears a chiton and a himation that draws up with her right hand. In her hair she wore a metal wreath, as is clear from the holes used to attach it. The volume of the body and the weight of the garments, probably modelled on the statue of Eirene (Peace). Peace by the sculptor Kephisodotos, emphasizes the solemn expression of her face. The name of the deceased is carved on the epistyle: Melite, wife of Spoudokrates of Phyla (the modern district of Chalandri in Athens). This stele together with others of later date, such as that of Melite's son, Telemachos, were erected in the family funerary enclosure in the north-west cemetery of Piraeus, in the area Karavas.
