Found in the ancient cemetery of the Kerameikos, Athens. A woman is depicted frontally wearing a chiton and a himation that covers her body and arms. The head of the figure will also have been covered by it. The relief adorned a large funerary naiskos. The model for this venerable woman will have been a famous statue of a goddess, possibly Demeter, carved by a great sculptor. The type, known as the Large Herculaneum Woman, is also rendered in other funerary statues.
