Alexander Burganov (born 1935) is a Russian sculptor, a National Artist of Russia, and a member of the Russian Academy of Fine Arts. His art is generally abstract and often uses fragments of human or animal bodies (especially horses) to build a bigger picture. This is a sculptural representation of the Slavic fairytale about the gigantic turnip: Grandfather plants a turnip, but it grow so big he cannot pull it out of the ground on his own. Eventually, he calls the grandmother, their granddaughter, their dog, cat, and mouse. Only with the little mouses help are they able to get the vegetable out, showing the strength in family and teamwork.
